Cindy Gallagher — Artist Statement
Cindy Gallagher is an artist and editor whose work explores process as a creative subject. Working through ballroom and Argentine tango as mediums, she examines how, repetition and structure shape transformation over time.
Raised in Peru, her work is informed by a multicultural perspective and an early exposure to music, ritual, and expressive movement as part of everyday life. Her artistic interests have been lifelong, creating various art projects long before her current focus on movement and cultural publishing.

Though she began dancing later in life, her practice became centered on performance and, specifically, the interplay of choreography, musicality, costuming and the invisible architecture of the stage. This process-driven approach now informs a broader creative ecosystem spanning publishing, documentary film and exhibition development.
In her earlier professional life, she advised large organizations, managed complex engagements, mentored teams and promoted professional development and diversity. This experience continues to inform her artistic thinking, particularly her focus on structure, long-term development, and the systems required to bring ambitious projects from concept to completion.
She is the founder and editor-and-chief of CINDY Magazine, a cultural publication documenting the world of ballroom and the lived experience surrounding it. Across her projects, she approaches dance not simply as performance, but as research into how artistic work is built through sustained effort and study.
A wife and mother of four, her work is grounded in lived experience and shaped by the realities of building an artistic life alongside family, responsibility, and reinvention.
