Cindy Gallagher — Artist Statement
Cindy Gallagher is an artist and editor whose work explores process as a creative subject. Her current practice spans documentary film, cultural publishing, and performance, using each as a medium for sustained observation of the creative process.
Raised in Peru, Cindy Gallagher’s work is informed by a multicultural perspective and an early exposure to music, ritual, and expressive movement as part of everyday life. Growing up with few opportunities for organized activities, she spent much of her childhood watching, listening, and paying close attention to the people and rhythms of everyday life around her. This way of seeing remains at the heart of her work.

Discovering ballroom dancing later in life revealed a world that invited long-term, close observation. Beyond the performances and competitions themselves, Cindy became captivated by the rituals, craftsmanship, relationships, and moments that shape the culture of pro/am ballroom dancing. What began as a personal pursuit gradually evolved into an expanding body of editorial, documentary, and artistic work.
In her prior professional life, Cindy worked at Deloitte, specializing in corporate tax and mergers and acquisitions. The strategic perspective developed during that time continues to shape her work, particularly her focus on structure, long-term development, and bringing ambitious creative projects from concept to completion.
A wife and mother of four, Cindy grounds her work in lived experience and shaped by the realities of building an artistic life alongside family, responsibility, and reinvention.
